TELL ’EM / THE HOW-TO
A little help goes a long way.
From your first story to your fifth. Here’s how it works.
01 / GETTING STARTED
Your first story.
How do I get started?
Select “Tell your story” on the main page. Add your name, email, phone number, a password of 12–128 characters, activity, and first story. Read and accept the terms, then continue to checkout. After completing checkout, you’ll get your private profile.
The current site is in demo mode: there’s no charge and no card collection.
Are AI phone calls available?
AI phone calls and voice previews are still in development. The current site saves stories and voice preferences. A call-room preview appears only when a story is approved and the host marks the request ready. A person joins only if separately arranged.
What is Tell ’Em for?
Lighthearted stories about golf, fishing, hunting, pickleball, and bowling. It is entertainment, not an independent witness or proof that an event happened. Do not use it to create an alibi, mislead authorities, support fraud, or deceive someone in a consequential matter.
02 / STORIES & REVIEW
Keep it in the right lane.
How do I add, edit, or delete my stories?
Open your profile. You have five story slots. Choose “Add a story,” add a title, select one of the five activities, and describe what happened. Choose “Edit story” to make changes, or “Delete” and confirm to free a slot. Each story can contain up to 2,000 characters.
New or edited stories go back to “Awaiting review.” Saving a story does not mean it has been approved for use.
Which stories will you turn down?
We decline stories outside golf, fishing, hunting, pickleball, and bowling, even if they are labelled as one of those activities. We also decline prohibited uses such as fraud, fabricated evidence or alibis, threats, harassment, impersonation, and unlawful activity. See our acceptable-use rules.
What happens when my story is declined?
Your profile shows “Declined” with a reason. The story stays editable, but is not approved for service. Edit it to fit the rules and it returns to review, or delete it and write another. Contact support if you think the decision was mistaken. A declined story does not automatically cancel your subscription or issue a refund.
How do I choose my buddy’s voice and name?
In your profile, go to “Your voice.” Select Male or Female, enter your buddy’s name, and press “Save voice settings.” These are saved preferences for future calling; there is no voice playback yet.
03 / BILLING & CANCELLATION
Your membership, your choice.
How do I update payment details or find receipts?
In your profile, open “Subscription” and select “Manage payments & receipts.” Stripe’s secure billing portal lets you manage payment details, view invoice history, and handle outstanding invoices. Your profile also shows your billing date, saved card summary when available, and recent invoices. These paid controls require a connected Stripe account; the demo collects no card and creates no receipts.
Can I restart after cancelling?
Yes. Choose “Keep my subscription” before a scheduled cancellation takes effect, or “Restart membership” after it ends. Your existing profile, stories, and buddy preferences are reused. Paid checkout shows the current recurring price before you subscribe; membership resumes after payment confirmation. A demo restart is free.
How will I know my story has been reviewed?
Look at “Story updates” in your profile for approval or decline decisions and the reason for a decline. Use “Refresh updates” to check again and mark shown updates read when you’re caught up. Email notices also go to your verified address when email delivery is configured. Review emails contain a login link; the story and review details stay in your private profile. Editing a story sends the new version for review.
What does the service cost?
The demo is free. The planned paid price is $5 per month, but this demo does not start paid billing.
How do I cancel?
Open your profile, select “Subscription,” choose “Cancel subscription,” and confirm. Paid cancellation stops renewal at the end of your current billing period. Demo cancellation ends the simulated membership immediately. Look for the confirmation on your profile; if cancellation fails, try again or contact support.
Do I lose my profile if I cancel?
No. Your profile stays active. Your stories, five story slots, and voice settings remain available to edit. Cancelling a subscription is separate from requesting account or data deletion.
Does cancellation give me a refund?
Cancellation stops future renewal; it does not automatically refund prior payments. If a payment looks wrong or you want to request a refund, contact support. Any rights you have under applicable law still apply.
04 / ACCESS & SUPPORT
Keep your link handy.
How do I return to my profile?
Choose “Log in” on the main page and enter the email and password used at signup. If you signed up before passwords were added, choose “Already have a private profile link?” on the login page to set up email login. Your original private link can still open your profile; anyone with it can access the profile, so keep it private.
What if I lose my private link?
If you have set up email login, you can log in without the link. If you signed up before passwords and have not set one up, check your saved links or original browser. For a forgotten login password, select “Forgot your password?” on the login page to request a reset email when email delivery is configured. Reset links expire in 30 minutes. A reset invalidates existing sessions and old private profile links. Contact support for available help; ownership must be verified.
How do I change my account details?
Log in, open your profile, and choose “Account settings.” You can save your name, change your password, and request verification of your email or phone number. Contact verification is available when email or text delivery is connected.
Enter your current password for email, phone, and password changes. Your current contact details stay active until verification succeeds. Email links expire in 30 minutes; phone codes expire in 10 minutes. You can cancel pending changes. Changing your login email signs out all devices; changing your password signs out other devices. Both invalidate old private profile links while preserving stories and subscription status.
How do I get help or request deletion?
Visit Support for email contact instructions. For deletion requests, identify the account email and explain what you want removed. Do not send a password, payment-card number, or your private profile link. We may need to verify ownership.
